VaxThera SAS has announced a strategic collaboration with the Serum Institute of India (SII) to advance vaccine manufacturing capacity and strengthen health security in Colombia. The partnership will initially focus on vaccines critical to the national immunization program, with the aim of improving access through reliable, locally produced supply.

The collaboration is designed to support the development of vaccines and biologicals within Colombia, reducing dependence on external supply chains and reinforcing preparedness against emerging health threats. By combining SII’s large-scale manufacturing expertise with VaxThera’s growing biotechnology infrastructure, the alliance seeks to establish a sustainable regional biomanufacturing ecosystem.

Professor Jorge Osorio, CEO of VaxThera, emphasized that restoring domestic vaccine production is central to strengthening public health resilience and enabling long-term innovation. He noted that partnerships are essential to building the scientific and industrial capacity required for equitable vaccine access and effective response to future health emergencies.

From an operational perspective, the collaboration aligns SII’s experience in producing affordable vaccines at global scale with VaxThera’s capabilities, including advanced laboratories, a GMP manufacturing facility, and academic partnerships. Together, the organizations aim to ensure consistent vaccine supply while fostering innovation and research within the region.

Professor Juan Pablo Hernandez, COO of VaxThera, highlighted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to building cross-border solutions that can deliver lasting public health impact. He indicated that the collaboration supports VaxThera’s long-term vision of strengthening Colombia’s health independence and expanding access to essential vaccines.

Beyond immediate immunization needs, the initiative is expected to enhance Colombia’s ability to respond to future pandemics and global health challenges by developing local expertise, infrastructure, and collaborative networks.
