FUJIFILM Corporation and Taiho Pharmaceutical have entered a strategic partnership to accelerate manufacturing technology development for next-generation antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), combining Taiho’s ADC discovery expertise with Fujifilm’s biologics manufacturing capabilities.

The collaboration will optimize manufacturing processes for Taiho Pharmaceutical’s ADC candidates developed using the proprietary AraLinQ™ technology from Araris Biotech AG, a Taiho subsidiary. The companies expect the partnership to establish robust manufacturing methods capable of delivering consistent, high-quality ADCs as development programs advance toward clinical and commercial stages.

Addressing a Critical Challenge in ADC Manufacturing

ADCs combine monoclonal antibodies with highly potent payloads, such as cytotoxic agents, enabling selective delivery of treatment to cancer cells while limiting exposure to healthy tissues. This targeted approach has positioned ADCs among the fastest-growing classes of oncology therapeutics.

Despite their therapeutic promise, ADC manufacturing remains technically demanding. Producing these medicines requires precise conjugation of antibodies and payloads while maintaining product consistency, stability, and quality. As the global ADC pipeline expands, scalable manufacturing has become a major challenge across the biopharmaceutical industry.

The new partnership focuses on overcoming these manufacturing hurdles by integrating drug discovery expertise with advanced process development and production technologies.

AraLinQ™ Platform Supports Site-Specific ADC Development

At the center of the collaboration is AraLinQ™, Araris Biotech’s proprietary ADC platform technology. The platform enables selective and homogeneous conjugation of payloads to antibodies, producing more uniform ADC molecules than conventional conjugation approaches.

Taiho Pharmaceutical views AraLinQ™ as a core technology supporting its next-generation ADC pipeline and is strengthening manufacturing and supply capabilities to support future clinical development and commercialization.

Under the agreement, Fujifilm will contribute expertise gained through its global biologics contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business, including process development, analytical capabilities, and large-scale biologics manufacturing.

Fujifilm Expands Integrated ADC Manufacturing Capabilities

Fujifilm has steadily expanded its biologics CDMO business worldwide, building extensive experience in antibody process development and commercial manufacturing.

Its group company, FUJIFILM Toyama Chemical, plans to launch Japan’s first integrated ADC CDMO service in 2027. The service will provide end-to-end manufacturing within Japan, covering antibody production, payload conjugation, and final drug product manufacturing under a single manufacturing framework.

The companies believe combining Fujifilm’s manufacturing expertise with Taiho’s ADC innovation platform will strengthen production capabilities for future oncology candidates.

Strategic Collaboration to Support Future ADC Development

Initially, the partnership will concentrate on optimizing manufacturing processes for Taiho Pharmaceutical’s ADC candidates. As these programs progress, Fujifilm and Taiho plan to broaden their technical collaboration and further strengthen manufacturing technologies that support sustainable, large-scale production.

The agreement reflects increasing industry investment in advanced manufacturing platforms that can support the next generation of precision oncology therapies, where manufacturing quality and consistency are critical for successful clinical development and future commercialization.
