Veradermics presented new subgroup data from its Phase 2/3 Study ‘302’ showing that investigational VDPHL01, an extended-release oral minoxidil tablet, demonstrated consistent efficacy and a favorable safety profile across younger and older men with mild-to-moderate pattern hair loss. The findings were presented during the 2026 American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Innovation Academy in New York City and provide additional evidence supporting the late-stage development of the therapy for androgenetic alopecia.

Extended-Release Oral Minoxidil for Pattern Hair Loss

VDPHL01 is an investigational, non-hormonal extended-release formulation of oral minoxidil currently in Phase 3 development for both male and female pattern hair loss. Unlike immediate-release oral minoxidil, the proprietary gel matrix formulation delivers the drug gradually, avoiding high peak plasma concentrations while maintaining prolonged exposure above the threshold believed to support hair growth. This pharmacokinetic profile is intended to improve efficacy while reducing the risk of dose-related adverse effects.

Pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia, affects an estimated 80 million people in the United States, including approximately 50 million men and 30 million women. The condition can significantly affect psychological well-being, self-esteem, and quality of life. Despite its high prevalence, no new FDA-approved prescription medicines for pattern hair loss have reached the market in nearly three decades.

Phase 2/3 Study ‘302’ Supports Consistent Activity Across Age Groups

Study ‘302’ is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2/3 trial (NCT06724614) evaluating VDPHL01 in more than 500 men with mild-to-moderate pattern hair loss.

The newly presented analysis assessed efficacy and safety according to age, comparing participants younger than 40 years with those aged 40 years or older. The subgroup findings showed that VDPHL01 maintained treatment activity and a favorable safety profile across both age groups, supporting its potential use in a broad adult male population.

The data were first presented in a poster session on July 16, followed by an oral presentation on July 17 by Maria Hordinsky, MD, FAAD, Professor and Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and a clinical investigator in the Veradermics program.

While the company did not disclose detailed efficacy statistics from the subgroup analysis, the findings build on previously reported topline results from Study ‘302’, announced in April 2026, which supported continued late-stage development of VDPHL01.

Late-Stage Development Program Continues

Veradermics is advancing VDPHL01 through multiple registration-directed studies in both men and women.

Enrollment has already been completed in Study ‘304’, the company’s second Phase 3 trial in men with pattern hair loss, with topline results expected during the second half of 2026.

The company also recently reported topline data from Study ‘207’ evaluating VDPHL01 in women with pattern hair loss. Another registration-directed Phase 2/3 study in women, Study ‘306’, is ongoing, with topline results anticipated in the first half of 2027.

If approved, VDPHL01 could become the first FDA-approved oral non-hormonal therapy for both male and female pattern hair loss. The investigational therapy is protected by a broad intellectual property portfolio, with the earliest patent expected to remain in force until 2043.

The age-based subgroup findings further strengthen the clinical evidence supporting VDPHL01 as Veradermics prepares for additional pivotal readouts that could shape future regulatory submissions for one of the largest unmet needs in medical dermatology.
